At Grenville-Dundas Veterinary Clinic, we are equipped with an in-house laboratory, which allows us to perform a wide range of tests on our premises. These tests include complete blood cell counts, biochemical profiles, urine and fecal analyses, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus tests, heartworm and Lyme disease screens and some cytology. These tests help the medical team to develop a diagnostic picture of your pet. When your companion is ill, they cannot tell us what is wrong and in most cases, a physical examination does not reveal the entire story. Our laboratory tests often help shed light on your pet’s condition, often within a few hours. In addition, our severely ill patients can be monitored for changes and their care and medications may be adjusted as necessary.
Another advantage of our on-site laboratory is the convenience to perform pre-anesthetic tests on the morning of a surgical procedure. This ensures that the information we are getting is as current as possible.
For histology, some cytology and most specialty tests, we make use of accredited laboratories throughout Canada and the United States. The test results from these laboratories are often available within a week.
